Beyoncé is opening up about her hair health after recently releasing a new haircare line.
The Grammy winner recently announced a new album, delving into the country genre. She’s also released two new singles, Texas Hold ‘Em and 16 Carriages.
She’s even made history with the new music. Texas Hold ‘Em debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart on Tuesday, making her the first Black woman to achieve the feat.
The star was featured on the cover of Essence magazine this week for the launch of her haircare line Cécred where she shared details about how her hair has changed over the years.

Beyoncé shared she has fond memories attached to her hair, including one that connects to a health issue.
She told Essence: “The relationship we have with our hair is such a deeply personal journey. From spending my childhood in my mother’s salon to my father applying oil on my scalp to treat my psoriasis— these moments have been sacred to me.”
Psoriasis is a chronic disease of the immune system where skin cells multiply too quickly, according to the National Institute of Health. It creates dry patches on the skin that can become inflamed.
One of her most memorable hairstyles was her pixie cut in 2013. She shared the reason she cut off her hair was to rebel against the idea of how a woman should look.

“I was a new mother, and something about the liberation of becoming a mother made me want to just shed all of that. It was a physical representation of me shedding the expectations put upon me,” she said.
While she has haircare routines, she said she likes to see them more as rituals, because caring for her hair has become sacred for her.
That’s partially where the name Cécred comes from.
Beyoncé said: “So I took the end of my name, Cé, and made it the beginning of the word sacred to create Cécred. From my mother’s salon, daily rituals with my father, and years of experience in developing a hair care line, the journey has been just that: Cécred.”
Cécred launched on Feb. 20, and the line carries products like shampoos, conditioners, hair oils, treatments, and more.
